Defense of Kyiv (Southern Bridge Fortified Area)

From the first days of the siege and assault on Kyiv, we converted our music festival concert venues into ideal drone launch sites. From these locations, we deployed UAVs for aerial reconnaissance from Hostomel, Kazharovichi, to Brovary. We organized coordination with the front lines, trained pilots on rotation, integrated injured personnel, and collaborated with the British Embassy and drone manufacturers. However, throughout this time, we received no drones or financial aid from the state for the infrastructure. Everything was purchased at our own expense and through volunteer funds raised from the population and donor businesses. For more details, see the video.

We are very grateful to the leadership of the Desnyansky District and the city of Kyiv for their organizational support. However, outside of this, there was complete chaos and a lack of coordination from the authorities. The overwhelming bureaucracy of the Ministry of Defense stifled most effective proposals. For instance, the UAV unit took six months to be officially established, and contracts for placing units were not signed. As a result, we had to cover 2 million UAH in utility expenses alone. Strangely, even during the war, the State Bureau of Investigations began targeting our enterprise, which housed the UAV unit. We had to manage everything on our own.

Entrepreneurs and citizens understood that, during wartime, the state should be treated as in peacetime: "If you can't help, at least don't hinder." State officials even refused to allocate stolen buildings from the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard, managed by UkrBud, for the placement of Armed Forces units. When I heard that these buildings couldn’t be used for the Armed Forces and Territorial Defense because "you know who stands behind them" (a reference to Tatartov and Yermak), I realized that discussing this with these corrupt officials was futile. Thus, we provided our own buildings and estates for the UAV units.

In honor of Kyiv's defenders – February and March 2022 – an alley named "Iron Eggs" was planted in Muromets Park.
