Music Mobile - The Mouthpiece of the Revolution

After the students were beaten and Yanukovych refused to sign the association agreement with the European Union, people began gathering on Maidan, and a UDAR (HIT) deputy called me, asking to provide the music mobile we had used for wakeboarding sports events for the demonstrations. It was an improvised stage with 20 kW of sound, sufficient for loud activist speeches. In the cold weather, we needed to entertain people somehow, so we played upbeat music during breaks between speeches to keep them moving and dancing. That’s probably where the phrase “Who doesn’t jump is a Moskali” originated.

Later, we set up the stage, but our music mobile was damaged by SBU agents and provocateurs (with punctured tires, a broken radiator, and damaged loudspeakers), so we had to send it for repairs. Additionally, on the first day, Berkut arrested our music mobile driver; it was said to be the first arrest of an activist from EuroMaidan. After that, the music mobile was guarded by self-defense units or the Right Sector during subsequent events.

However, the Maidan wasn’t gathering massive crowds initially. So, in the first days, Vice President of the Wakeboard Federation, Oleksiy Hrytsenko, called me and asked if we, along with MP Yavorivskyi, could drive the music mobile in a convoy around Kyiv to invite residents to support Maidan. We did just that, and everyone in those convoys gathered near Lybid. It was there that the structure of AutoMaidan began to form for the first time. The leaders of AutoMaidan included Koba, Hrytsenko, and Bulatov.

The frontmen included Poyarkov, Chornovol, and the coordinators were Butko, Khadzhinov, Rudyak, Zozulya. The activists were Bondarenko, Okhota, Kovtunenko, Vityryana, among others, and sympathizers joined periodically. At that time, Koba's orange Volkswagen led the convoy.

We coordinated with the opposition (Klitschko, Tyahnybok, Yatsenyuk) and protest movements like Self-Defense and the Right Sector. Our tasks included:

• Mobile actions:

• Logistics for Maidan (delivering tires, resin, gasoline, foam, bottles for Molotov cocktails, food supplies, helmets, shields, IT equipment for Maidan, medicines, and waste removal)

• Blocking buses with police and Berkut units (our vehicles were often damaged)

• Visiting estates

• Sound support for actions and providing a stage for speeches

• Picketing government institutions

• Organizing car convoys to gather Kyiv residents for the revolution

• Field actions and information warfare

• Filming the estates of officials with drones
