Hunting for Legends: FreeGen GO Invites Guides to cooperate !
Dracula in Romania, the UFO crash at Area 51 in Nevada, the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, and the Troll Tongue in Norway—what connects these famous tourist attractions that bring in hundreds of millions in tourism revenue for their countries and regions?
They are all fictional; these are tales and legends that do not correspond to any historical or cultural reality. Yet the whole world recognizes them as symbols of these countries, and tourists consider them must-see destinations.
Most visitors rarely know the historical symbols of countries, but nearly everyone is familiar with their legendary symbols—Copenhagen's Little Mermaid, Finland's Santa Claus Village in Lapland, and Brussels' Manneken Pis, among others.
However, the pinnacle of tourism legends is what compels people from around the world to travel and pay between €25 and €55 for a tour, trek 14 kilometers to a piece of rock sticking out of a cliff, and take a selfie there, simply because someone invented the story that "the troll was afraid of sunlight and stuck his tongue out of the cave, which then turned to stone." Moreover, there are known to be dozens of similar stones around the world.
There are plenty of similar rocks sticking out of cliffs around the world, but people only travel to Norway because it has a particularly successful legend. This is exactly what the FreeGen GO team is dedicated to—searching for such legends in Ukraine.
Now, imagine you've arrived in a new city and want to have an exciting time exploring the most famous and interesting locations nearby. You search online and find a list of various routes on different websites and Google Maps.
Among all the options, there’s an app for your smartphone that acts as a professional guide, taking you through meticulously curated routes. These routes range from historically and culturally significant sites for older generations and educational institutions to entertaining legends for the youth and whimsical adventures for children. There are even barrier-free routes for those with injuries and inclusive needs.
The app offers video content with audio guides in your language, bringing landmarks to life through augmented reality, and all of this is five times cheaper than a tour with a local guide. This is what FreeGen GO is all about. To provide tourists and residents with the most valuable and interesting journeys filled with adventures, the team is compiling routes featuring legends and tourist attractions.
In recent years, the FreeGen GO team has been on a quest to uncover the most vibrant legends in Ukraine and abroad, inviting guides, local historians, and scriptwriters to collaborate. During this time of decline in tourism in Ukraine due to the war, this initiative is incredibly valuable for supporting guides and the tourism community.
Here are some collaboration and partnership options with the FreeGen GO platform:
1) SCRIPT PURCHASE: The FreeGen GO team buys scripts for interesting routes. The guide-scriptwriter provides a script based on a legend and coordinates for the travel points. Ideally, the route should not exceed 2 hours and cover more than 5 km in radius, making it suitable for walking, biking, or electric scootering, with minimal use of public transport. This is a one-time purchase of the copyright for the legend's script.
2) PARTNERSHIP: The guide-scriptwriter provides a script based on a legend and coordinates for the travel points. FreeGen GO lists the route on its platform and transfers 20-30% (depending on the terms) from each mission purchase to the author's card.
3) COLLABORATION: The FreeGen GO team lists a route on the platform exclusively for the guide’s use as support for their offline tours. A separate mission-route is also created for those who want to explore it independently via their smartphone, with a commission for the guide.
A virtual tour-route is not a competitor but rather an assistant for guides, providing an additional source of income when they cannot be on-site (due to illness, vacation, or weekends). It’s essential to understand the dual benefits for guides from utilizing smartphone technology with virtual routes.
An offline tour with a guide differs from a virtual experience on a smartphone; it’s like comparing attending a live theater performance to watching it on YouTube, savoring craft beer versus drinking pasteurized beer from a can, or shopping at a boutique versus a supermarket. Each option has its advantages and disadvantages, but together they are more effective.
The FreeGen GO team, in collaboration with guides, creates excellent tourist routes and lists them on a marketplace for client convenience.
